Welcome to my Blog!

He Loves me… He loves me HOT {Chatham-Kent Boudoir Photographer}

Just before I go off to the UK for a couple weeks, I thought I would share a peek into a spicy little session that I did this during my last boudoir marathon.
There are a couple of guys out there who are going to an amazing Valentine’s Gift! I’m thrilled that I could help!
The images below have either been shot to purposely not have a face or the photo has been cropped so that I don’t give away too much before the big day!

Boudoir Marathons don’t end just because Valentine’s day comes and goes!
Book them for an anniversary gift, birthday gift, wedding gift, to say I love you… or just a treat to yourself for being fabulous!

Boudoir is very personal. I understand that! People tell me all the time that they would love to have one done, but they need to get in shape first. Part of my job as a photographer is to know ahead of time what poses will look amazing on any body type… any age. How long have you been saying “let me get in shape first”…. Are you getting any thinner? Are you getting any younger? Embrace who you are now and as they say… “Love the skin you’re in!”.  If you get in shape later… then do it again to remind yourself of your accomplishments!

See you soon!

The Studio! {Chatham-Kent Photographer}

The studio still needs a little work, but it is coming along!
The floor will still need to be finished this spring, but in the meantime I will embrace the rustic scandinavian look!
I invite you to stop by for photos or just to say hello!

I will be traveling through Europe again from Feb 2nd-Feb 21st so the studio will re-open again upon my return! I am taking bookings via facebook or email:
veronica@veronicalanephotography.com

Hope to see you soon!

Baby Soft {Chatham-Kent Baby Photographer}

This session absolutely melted my heart!
Baby portraits have always been a favourite of mine, but this time of year makes them tricky to do in natural light because of the grey days and bad weather.
With the opening of my studio, I now have this problem solved! All of the photos below were taken at my studio location with natural light. The best part of all is that the studio is big enough that I can get traditional portraits but I also have room to move around to capture those natural lifestyle-like images as well.

Meet baby Adam! He’s so unbelievably sweet!
Apparently, Adam’s mom and I used to play together when we were little girls! I think that makes me love this session even more!

If you know someone that would like to have studio portraits, please contact me at veronica@veronicalanephotography.com

Being a Girl {Chatham-Kent Senior Photographer}

I can’t believe she’s only 10 years old. She fits into my shoes, we can almost share clothes, and it won’t be long before I will be seeing her eye to eye.
Let’s hope as a teen she will learn to see eye to eye with me!
My little rock star with great big hair!

Aunt Susie - this has to be the prettiest model yet!!!!! (said with a large amount of bias) Love you both!!!!!January 23, 2012 - 12:14 pm

Veronica Who? Oh, you mean me?

Now that I am home and settling in after a wonderful trip with friends and family in Europe, it is now time to get back to work in a fresh new year.

I have so many plans for 2012 that I really feel like my head is going to explode! If you look at the picture below, it looks like my head is really big doesn’t it?!… its okay, you can agree! I have to give this photo credit to my mom! She loves my big head!

To start setting the goals for 2012, I need to figure out where I went right and wrong in 2011. Last year was equally one of the most thrilling and difficult years of my life. A few big things were knocked off my bucket list, but then a few thing made me feel like I was knocked into the bucket. Kerplunk! As they say, what doesn’t kill you will only make you stronger… even though somedays you kinda wish it would just kill you!  So you take the good and the bad… learn from it and get stronger. Stronger. Stronger. (yes… okay… I chant to myself… whatever works right!?)

2012… Let’s do this!

First things first… learning to prioritise. Not an easy thing to do when there are so many demands but also many wishes and dreams on the new bucket list!  My life constantly feels like being forced to choose boring broccoli when all I want is delicious chocolate and am secretly eating the chocolate every sneaky chance I get! Somewhere there must be middle ground and it must be more successful than chocolate covered broccoli! Oiy!

This year, my first priority is to slow down and to make more time to be with family. Last year was my most ridiculous juggling act of my life. I was trying to fit in time with family, travel, a full time job, my passion for photography, our building project, and somewhere in there try to have a social life!  It might surprise some of you, but I don’t get out much! I lost two very close family members in 2011 and have had this nagging feeling inside that I didn’t spend enough time with them to let them know how much I loved them and how important they were to me. I would rather eat the chocolate covered broccoli every single day for the rest of my life than lose another loved one and have this nagging feeling inside that I didn’t try hard enough. Family is the most important thing we have in life. Treat them well!
Now that my full time career is my own photography business, I am able to make more time for loved ones and for myself as needed! The re-prioritisation is already working!

Second priority is health and try to get my family healthy. I have slowly gotten over my fear of the gym and have actually started to use my membership on a regular basis, which is kind of a big deal! Somehow I felt kind of healthy just knowing that I had a membership in case I ever decided to use it… which I never did!  Health apparently doesn’t work like that! Once upon a time I was tipping the scales at an unhealthy 200lbs. I worked very hard on my own to drop off 60+ of it but still have some work to do. That damn ‘plateau’ gets the best of us! I would like to be able to jog for miles and miles and actually feel alive at the end! I would like for Ryenne to understand that what you put in your mouth is SO important and that being active throughout your life is such a crucial part of life’s happiness. For the rest of my family, they are all working very hard to quit smoking while trying to not eat everything insight. I can’t express how happy this makes me! One hour at a time… Just don’t give up even if you slip up a little… you can always just jump back on track! I might even broaden the scope of this and drag a few friends into my new health kick!

The next few priorities include building a stronger brand and more successful photography business. More time behind the lens and less time behind a computer screen. I feel like it’s time to open the calendar to more wedding photography; it must be all the love in the air with Valentine’s day around the corner. I would like to officially open the studio for in house photography all year long which means no more cancellations because of cold or bad weather!
I would like to start knocking off a few new bucket list items including new international travel destinations with photo shoots along the way, a wedding for me and Max, and possibly start building on an already fantastic family!  I might get a book or two in this year.

Every once in a while, a blog posting is just about me. Now… let my blog postings be about you and your family or your business! This is my chocolate!

Anette - Great words of wisdom! I wish you all the best of luck & happiness! Will keep admiring your photos a wonder how did she get that beautiful light!? ;) xxJanuary 20, 2012 - 2:28 pm

We’re engaged!

The birds are singing… the clouds are fluffy like cotton candy… the sky is blue… Must be love!!
I know you have been waiting for this one! I’ve been asked to flash the ring and although its very tempting (its absolutely beautiful and he deserves credit for really doing his homework on this!), but an engagement isn’t just about about the ring! I will however post these more important photos of our engagement!  Can you feel the love?! You can see it allll over my face!
I would like to thank  Anette Cook Linardatos for being quick with the camera and capturing these photos just seconds after midnight on New Years Eve when Max proposed on a very cold balcony! And she captured a little bling in there for you too!

I’m not entirely sure when we are going to be able to fit a wedding into our busy schedules… or what side of the world our wedding will be on, but I’m super excited and honoured to be apart of the Girardo family. (I’m hoping they are just as excited!)

Now… who will be our wedding photographer!?!?!

John - These are great photos! Hire your friend Anette, she did a great job with your engagement!January 16, 2012 - 12:41 pm

Winter Vacation: Part V

Nearing the end of an awesome vacation. A quick trip to Borough Market in London before heading back to Canada.
I love market days! You could almost have a full meal by just walking through and taste testing all of the delicious treats the vendors have to offer.
From the market you can see the construction happening on “The Shard” which will be the tallest building in the European Union, and the 45th tallest in the world once complete this May. This of course means it is no competition to the Eiffel Tower (324 meters tall) or NYC’s Empire State Building (443.2 meters) and especially not to Canada’s CN Tower (553 meters tall).  Its still a very beautiful building and will contrast well with the many heritage buildings around it in Southwark.

Arica - Please tell me you ate one of those baguettes!January 16, 2012 - 1:16 pm

Winter Vacation: Part IV – Versailles

Our next stop… Versailles!

Another beautiful place ticked off of my bucket list and another history lesson for Ryenne!

I’m sure many of you have seen Sofia Coppolas version of Marie Antoinette, but until you have actually seen the beauty of Versailles with your own eyes… its incomprehensible. The fine fine details in every inch of the palace is astonishing. Chandeliers, candelabras, fine textiles. I was in absolute princess heaven!

Once we got past the well manicured gardens and ponds we reached Marie Antoinette’s getaway village which isn’t anything like I expected. I knew about her senseless spending, so I expected glam and sparkle, a private palace spilling with royalty… but I was wrong! Very wrong! Her getaway village was very calm and quaint with farm animals and thatched roofs.

Not only was I impressed with the little details of Versailles, but the enormous property itself is fascinating.  I took a LOT of photos while I was there and couldn’t possibly post all of them on the blog,  but I didn’t even get to some of the main areas before it was time to leave. I could spend days there! Apparently… so can many other locals who use the property for their daily jogs!

Thank you Mr. Romantic!

Michelle Crummy - Absolutely beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!January 12, 2012 - 10:49 am

Winter Vacation: Part III

From France to Italy via Mont Blanc!
Mont Blanc is not only the the highest  mountain in the Alps, but its the highest mountain in all of Western Europe! There are many smaller tunnels that run through the alps, but the the trans-Alpine route that runs through Mont Blanc is almost 12km in length and was the location of a major tunnel fire in 1999 killing 39 people.  You have to love the education that you get from traveling!
On the Italian side of Mont Blanc, Ryenne counted nearly 15 visible castles along our route. This inspired us to go for a tour and learn a little bit about the area!

So, we are off to Castellamonte in Turin, Italy. Castellamonte is famed for their terracotta and ceramics which you will see all around the town on their street name plates, art pieces, roof tops and stoves which are used throughout Europe! While in Italy, we also learned of the tradition of  La Befana and Epiphany! How have I made it to the age of 33 and not ever heard of this! We learned about the Witches and the events of the 12th day of Christmas. Very interesting!

We visited Castello di Agliè but unfortunately, we weren’t allowed to take photos inside. The tour was done in Italian and from what I was able to make out of it, the castle was one of the summer residences of the Kings of Sardinia.  Through out the castle, the furniture and the paintings were stunning. Chapels, theatres, chandeliers… I’m in heaven! It was killing me not to be able to take photos!

This castle tour has only inspired us to make our next stop to the Palace of Versailles… where photos are allowed!

Dana - Ok...next European road trip will include Paul and I, right? Max and Paul can speak Italian in the front seat while you and I sit in the back drinking wine :) Let's make a plan together over coffee soon! And I can sit and stare at your ring the whole time - haha! xoxo DanaJanuary 11, 2012 - 10:27 am

Alysson - You know how much I am drooling over these photos right? I love that I have a friend who travels to Italy on a regular basis and can take such stunning photos so I can live vicariously through you!! You have an incredible talent Veronica. Keep it up.January 11, 2012 - 11:03 am
