The studio still needs a little work, but it is coming along!
The floor will still need to be finished this spring, but in the meantime I will embrace the rustic scandinavian look!

Baby Soft {Chatham-Kent Baby Photographer}

This session absolutely melted my heart!
Baby portraits have always been a favourite of mine, but this time of year makes them tricky to do in natural light because of the grey days and bad weather.
With the opening of my studio, I now have this problem solved! All of the photos below were taken at my studio location with natural light. The best part of all is that the studio is big enough that I can get traditional portraits but I also have room to move around to capture those natural lifestyle-like images as well.

Meet baby Adam! He’s so unbelievably sweet!
Apparently, Adam’s mom and I used to play together when we were little girls! I think that makes me love this session even more!

Winter Vacation: Part III

From France to Italy via Mont Blanc!
Mont Blanc is not only the the highest mountain in the Alps, but its the highest mountain in all of Western Europe! There are many smaller tunnels that run through the alps, but the the trans-Alpine route that runs through Mont Blanc is almost 12km in length and was the location of a major tunnel fire in 1999 killing 39 people. You have to love the education that you get from traveling!
On the Italian side of Mont Blanc, Ryenne counted nearly 15 visible castles along our route. This inspired us to go for a tour and learn a little bit about the area!

So, we are off to Castellamonte in Turin, Italy. Castellamonte is famed for their terracotta and ceramics which you will see all around the town on their street name plates, art pieces, roof tops and stoves which are used throughout Europe! While in Italy, we also learned of the tradition of La Befana and Epiphany! How have I made it to the age of 33 and not ever heard of this! We learned about the Witches and the events of the 12th day of Christmas. Very interesting!

We visited Castello di Agliè but unfortunately, we weren’t allowed to take photos inside. The tour was done in Italian and from what I was able to make out of it, the castle was one of the summer residences of the Kings of Sardinia. Through out the castle, the furniture and the paintings were stunning. Chapels, theatres, chandeliers… I’m in heaven! It was killing me not to be able to take photos!

This castle tour has only inspired us to make our next stop to the Palace of Versailles… where photos are allowed!

Santa Baby!

Santa Baby, it just occurred to me tonight how excited I am that Christmas is just around the corner.
I am not complaining at all about this, but I think without snow this year I just haven’t been in the Christmas spirit… until now!

I felt the need to go out for a walk tonight, maybe because the sidewalks are still clear and the weather is still fairly mild considering it is December. I felt a little guilty for not going out to enjoy it while I still can! Thankfully I had my iPhone with me to help me capture a little cheer that our quaint village has been spreading around. I could hear some Christmas music off in the distance as I walked which got me thinking about the celebrations… I started wishing that Chatham had a winter festival with hot chocolate, mulled wine, roasted chestnuts booths… winter crafts for kids… maple candies… lights… games… WAIT! Could it be? Could I be wanting winter to happen!? Hmm… Interesting. Perplexing. Astonishing even. Santa Baby, have you put me under your spell?

I don’t think that this will last long my friends… so you had better soak up Festive Veronica while you can!

Once again, photography has made me change the way I see things… so therefore the way I see things change.

Vintage Love

I love that vintage photography has made such a huge come back. Polaroids, Holgas, lomography cameras… FILM! Who knew film would make such a huge come back!
There are photo shops that have gone completely out of business because no one has the need to developed film anymore due digital technology. It’s sad really… when you think about the large film culture that is coming out of the vintage wood work right now. Where will they go!
I do believe that we will look back on our crisp digital photos and think WHY did we over process so much! (I’m already doing it!)

Have you met film photographer Jose Villa yet?

The man is a film genius! His photos are breathtaking and I have to say, it’s refreshing to see someone in the wedding industry who hasn’t forgotten what PHOTOGRAPHY is really about. He captures light, love and amazing colour in his artful images and because he shoots with film he must line up the shots with perfect exposure and composition every time. There is not an instant image to look at on an LCD screen on the back of his camera. This is pure bravery! Jose recently launched his first Fine Art Wedding Photography book, which of course I have! If you don’t have it, you can find it here.

Although I love the look of film, I don’t think that I will ever get over my love of instant gratification long enough to be able to shoot film at a wedding, but I am seriously thinking of taking it up as my next expensive hobby!

Of course a blog posting wouldn’t be the same without some of my own images. Here are some vintage feel photos of mine that I did to feed my polaroid addiction.

Nine years ago my life changed forever!
I remember it like it was just last week; that sweet little stork bite on your little nose… your first cries… the first time you opened your eyes and looked at me when all the doctor madness ended. In that moment, something magical happens in a mother. There is an unbreakable bond, a sense of protection, a world of motherly knowledge just happens.

Ryenne Elizabeth: My first real true love. My first true tears of happiness.

Today, we celebrate your birthday with your closest and dearest friends… and Nana!

Point Then Shoot… Go Phillies

Canadian Thanksgiving… it used to be spent traveling with my father to some beautiful Canadian hot spots, but now it is spent traveling with RM to Hershey Pennsylvania. Don’t get me wrong… I’m not complaining! What vegetarian wouldn’t give up a Turkey Dinner for an All-You-Can-Eat-(When-Max-Isn’t-Looking)-All-Day-Chocolate-Buffet! Yup… I’m livin in my fat pants from now until exactly one month after Easter! Thanksgiving is never the same without a table full of family members… I promise to make up for it!

This year was a little different from last years indulgence in that I was able so sneak away from the Land O’ Chocolate for an afternoon in Philadelphia. Of course the first tourist place that comes to mind is to visit the “Rocky Stairs” at the Philadelphia Art Museum… and then Geno’s for the guys to try out the famous Philly Cheese Steaks! In case you are wondering… YES I did have a bite of the Cheese Steak! Don’t hate… It would be a travellers sin to not taste test the local delicacies… but I’m glad I stopped there! I think I saved myself from a serious case of heart burn. We also dinned in at Cuba Libre which was much more accommodating to the non-meat loving travellers!

Ever since I received my new Canon 5D Mark II, I have been very cautious on where I bring my camera, so on this trip, I only brought my Canon PowerShot Digital Elph. All of the photos below are with this camera. You can really see the limitations on a Point & Shoot in big cities. A wide angle lens is a necesssssity! It’s painful at times to not have all my gear!

Since Philadelphia has that 70′s kinda feel to it, I thought I would dress up a few of my photos to give it that retro feel. For the rest of the photos… they are in my usual style!

Monterey 2010 & The RM Team

Welcome back to another exciting and exhausting year in Monterey California! I would like to say Congratulations to the RM Restoration team for their amazing work on the 1933 Delage that won “Best of Show” at the Concours d’Elegance! Congratulations to the RM Auction’s team for their hard work at the auction which brought in more that $67 Million over the course of a 3 day auction. And, last but not least… Congratulations to Max for making it through as Car Weeks best auctioneer while feeling ‘just slightly’ under the weather! (I’m not biased, I’m just his biggest fan!)

The 1933 Delage

Can I just tell you how difficult it is to get photos like this at the Concours! There are THOUSANDS of people there waiting in their spots for hours to snap this photo! A little Charm goes a long way!

As I seem to do every year, I leave my “good” camera at the hotel because by the time the concours comes around, I’m too tired to be bothered to carry it!
So let this once again be proof that you don’t need an expensive camera to get great photos! These were taken with my Canon PowerShot Elph – $150 two years ago!
We won’t see these on billboards, but they still look great!

Celebrities onsite included Arnold Schwarzenegger, Patrick Dempsey, Ed Hermann, Jay Leno… and of course those that you ‘think’ that you see like Rob Lowe!

1949 Delahaye Type 175 S Roadster – Sold for 3 million at auction.1958 Ferrari 250 “Pontoon Fender” Testa Rossa – Didn’t sell at auction, but did make it to $10.7 million at the highest bid! Apparently, just not enough money!

The Auction… very exciting moments! Good job Steph!

When it’s all said, sold and done… we’re off to Monterey’s Fisherman’s Warf for breakfast!
