Back to School Fool!

I can not believe Ryenne is going into Grade 5 tomorrow! I wonder if the tears will roll down my face again this year as they have every year since the first day in junior kindergarten. Sigh… my baby is growing up so fast!
She is anxious to go back, but just to see her friends. She’s already into reading magazines and clothes. My hands are getting full!

I’m going to have to keep her focused on School books! Not magazines!

August Light

Day Light: Catch it before its gone! The days are getting shorter already… sigh…

One of my most favourite stress relievers its taking my camera for a “walk” to see what I can come up with. Usually I come away with a couple fav’s… I sometimes post a few… sometimes they sit on my hard drive collecting microdust.

Today however, I was definitely feeling the love the sun was sending me! I couldn’t decide what my most favourite shots were, so I’m just going to post all my favs!

I haven’t been posting much lately, so consider this a bonus!

I’m not always a fan of sun flair because you can’t always direct where the rainbows are going to land! Maybe you know how to do that and want to enlighten me. I want them… just not on peoples faces; or in this case… the horses face!
Light however is one of the elements of photography that makes it so interesting! Its amazing how different a photo can look if your camera isn’t metered properly to accept the differences in the light and dark levels in your images. I LOVE playing with natural light, especially the warm August afternoon light!

What else is there to do on a cold grey April day? Momma… let’s go to the beach… I need a bucket… one with a bigger shovel…

Our April visit to Erieau has been an annual event for about 4 years now. Usually it’s on a sunnier day, this time there was no such luck but that didn’t stop us! Come on Spring… hurry up!

Defining Moments

It took until this very moment to understand what kind of photographer I am. I have never filled in my bio on my webpage or this blog as I haven’t really ever known what to say about myself as a photographer. It’s hard to call yourself a photographer when you are in the beginning stages of mastering your craft and I am still there. Still.

If you follow photography blogs you can see each photographer’s style, whether it be their shooting style or color correcting or presentation of the photos. People have told me that I have a style, which strikes me funny because I thought I was still seeking my defining style, but tonight while looking through my session photos, I saw it. MY STYLE! How would I define it? What kind of photographer am I? I am a get down on the floor, get high up in a tree, child chasing, passion seeking, real life photographer. What kind of photos do I produce? Real life photos… and lots of them!

This moment struck me while when I realized that I had enough very different photos from one session to put together a 42 image canvas for one of my clients. The photos were taking inside and outside and in different outfits… from up high and down low. (Yes, photography can be a work out!) There are some formal/posed photos but most are candid’s catching real life moments that we often miss when we are on the move. Isn’t that what photography is all about?

I have been lagging in my blog posting over the last two weeks. My camera is still getting a tune up which has been a blessing in disguise! I have gotten caught up on my editing and have been able to take some time to plan some upcoming trips! Don’t worry… I haven’t forgotten about my blog!

Things I love: Post Cards

Let’s reinvent the art of post-cards.
It’s amazing how you can make someone’s day just by sending a hand written note. We have started using them at work and I have recently ordered some from a cycling/clothing design company just because of the great series of black and white photography. Somewhere in one of my many boxes I have about 15 post cards from my pen-pal in Paris!

I feel it coming… standard post will make a come back!

Good friends, sunshine and sticky fingers! What more could a birthday girl want?

Beautiful blue-eyed Bella is turning 2 and the whole neighborhood has been invited to celebrate in their PJ’s on her front porch! Dad served up the pancakes and waffle cones full of fruit, while mom prepared some of the best birthday party games I’ve ever had the pleasure to take part in!
