Before lifestyle photography became the “in” thing (and better thing, might I add), we had mainstream portrait studios like Sears and Walmart. I know a lot of people still get these done and that’s ok if you are going for the “no personality” look. Sadly enough, I have seen portrait studios screw up a few things as well. Nothing about photography is “cookie cutter”. With portrait studios, you get SOO many of the same photos and what on earth can you do with 12 5×7′s of the same picture? Stick it in an envelope and leave it at the bottom of the junk drawer for the next 8 years.
With lifestyle photography, you get a lot of photos still, but different photos of the same thing: All that is YOU! So what do you do with all of those photos? Frame them, put them in large print leather album, order a canvas, put them in a collage. (Ahem, the whopping 42 image multi collage is always a great way to show off your photos!) Just show them off!
Lifestyle photography shows the REAL you. Why would you display anything but that!
I love this image from Brooke Bowland Photography. This is a great example of why you WANT so many photos! This is a very classic and clean layout and it keeps your eye moving along to the next image. This layout is also a great way to display those multiple ”the-same-thing-but-different” series images.
(You can see more images shot by Brooke Bowland and Michele Dyson on their new blog: White Linen).
On a different note: here is a sneak peek as to what’s coming this week:
